Death Comes To Aged Bowen Citizen Yesterday Afternoon

Bowen, Ill., May 14 - John A. Riley, a pioneer resident of Bowen, passed away at the family home there yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock, the immediate cause of death being inflammation of the bladder, though he had been in failing health for something over a year, at which time he had suffered a slight stroke of paralysis. His age was 84 years, 7 months and 16 days. He was born in Sangamon county, near Springfield, and came to Adams county with his parents in his early youth, where he resided almost continuously until 1893, when he removed to Bowen, which had ever since been his home.

Mr. Riley was married in 1849 to Miss Lucinda Harris, who was his faithful and capable helpmeet through sixty-three years of wedded life. To this union there were born seven children, two daughters and five sons. Surviving, there is the aged widow, three sons and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Riley was an honest, conscientious and upright citizen, held in high esteem by all who knew him, and death closes for him a useful and honorable career. The funeral service will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, at Ebenezer church, some ten miles northwest of Camp Point, in Houston township, with burial in the cemetery adjoining.
