Land of the Leinbachs
Johannes Leinbach settled his family in Berks County in southeastern Pennsylvania, shown in green in the map below.

The Oley Valley area in which they built their cabin was organized into Oley Township, shown in green in the map of Berks County at right. The gold dot locates the Leinbachs' homestead.
Below, a map of Oley Township shows land grant owners from 1710 to 1740. "John Leinbach" is shown in the lower left. I adapted this map from a composite map by Phoebe Hopkins of the Pike Oley District Preservation Coalition from a survey by Arthur Haas. The red border is present-day Oley Township.

By 1860, Nathaniel Knabb owned the land, as shown in this township map from that year. At right, a present-day computer-generated map from a Berks County government Web site shows that while the Leinbach-Knabb land is still mostly intact, developed parcels are starting to surround it.
